Selling herbs is potentially quite lucrative. You can do so through a brick-and-mortar location. However, you may find it easier and more efficient to sell them via an eCommerce business.
If you’re selling Kratom, credit card processing is going to be necessary, but not all companies want to have anything to do with it. Even though Kratom is legal or at least unregulated in all 50 states, there are some card companies that shy away from it. The same is true with some other herbs or herbal products.
However, despite this being an issue you sometimes have to work around, for the most part, selling herbs online is not all that complicated. Let’s look at the steps you will need to follow if you are interested in doing it.
Plan and Research
The first thing you will likely want to do is research your target audience. This involves determining who is most prone to buying the kinds of herbs that you will be selling.
Different groups will be interested in purchasing remedies, teas, infused oils, dried herbs, etc. You need to figure out the buying habits and tendencies of each group. This way, you will know how to market to them.
Build Your Online Presence
You will next want to build your online presence. You will either need to create a website on your own if you’re capable of it or else hire a web designer to handle it for you.
You will want to work on crafting your brand identity as well. This involves creating a logo, coming up with a company name, and figuring out what the product pages on your website will look like.
Use Social Media to Your Advantage
You will probably want to create social media accounts for your company on different platforms. Again, you will want to do some market research to figure out the platforms your target audience is most likely to use.
You need to be selective with the platforms you choose. If you spread yourself too thin by creating content for two dozen platforms, that is inefficient and won’t get you the sales you’re looking for.
You must then start creating social media content. You might do that yourself, or you may hire a social media specialist who is familiar with your niche.
Open Your Doors to the Public
You will need to find a reliable source for your herbs, or ideally, more than one. That way, if one of your sources dries up or isn’t working out, you can fall back on one of the others.
Once you take your website live, you will want to promote it in every way you can. That might involve setting up a PPC ad campaign. You can ramp up your social media posts. You may hold contests or do giveaways to generate interest.
Remember that many companies fail in the early going, so be sure to read plenty of marketing books or listen to podcasts so that you won’t make any rookie mistakes.
